Interior design and decoration of ballrooms for all periods, Edwardian, Georgian, Victorian, Art Noveau, Art Deco and contemporary

Interior Design & Decoration

A Chinese dragon based on an original relief sculpture. It, and its unpainted brethren form the focal point of a Georgian ballroom. If you could see it in the flesh, it appears to be woven, rather like a tapestry.
Interior design and decoration of this Georgian ballroom using rag rolling, marbling, woodgraining and hand painted decorative panels

Interior Design & Decoration

Many techniques used here including; ragrolling, marbling, woodgraining & mural painting.
Gold leaf is best appreciated as an external finish rather than for interior design effects

Exterior Decoration Gold Leaf

Large gilded wrought iron gates, you can't see much really, but a fleur de lys detail is pictured to your right.
It took about 1000 books of gold leaf to complete the work.
Gold leaf is well suited for subltle interior decorative effects but here its durability is demonstrated on gilded ironwork

Gilding & Decoration

Gold leaf has a natural lustre that no other material can rival. Although it is extremely thin it is durable enough to outlast any painted finish.

trompe l'eoil painting on timber of Japanese pagoda, lillies and lake

Interior Design & Decoration

This trompe l'oeil was used in a display of oriental furniture in an exhibition setting. It's life sized and prooved to be very effective.
Air brushed or sprayed paint techniques provide subtle gradations of colour
